Ordering at the "CShow" Store

Ordering on our web site,
Downloading and Installing your order

Sound pretty complicated? If you're worried that you need to be a "rocket scientist" to do something like this, here's a detailed description of the entire (4-step) process.
  1. Place your order
  2. Download the zip file
  3. Install the program
  4. Make a "master disk"

1. Go to The Store and place your order

Fill in the blanks on the order form.

( p r a c t i c e )
Your email address
Your name
Your mailing address
( p r a c t i c e )
Your credit card number
Discover, Mastercard, or Visa

You'll need to type in your credit card number. Since this is a secure site, no one else on the internet can see your card number. All your personal information is encrytped, using a secret code that makes it impossible for any "hacker" to see it. As you place your order, we do not save your credit card number in our database, so no one can ever find it on our website.

Credit card expiration

You indicate your credit card expiration date by selecting the month and year from the two "drop-down" lists. Just click the "down arrow" button to open each list in turn. Click the month name or year number to select it.

When you've completed the form, click the "Submit" button to send us your order. We display a receipt (with the credit card number shown as "xxxx xxxx xxxx 1234") and suggest that you use the "Print" function of your browser to send it to your printer as a permanent record of your order.

2. Download the zip file

Shortly after placing your order (generally the next business day), you will receive email telling you that your order is ready. Below are three examples showing what the message looks like in America Online, in Outlook Express, and a third style that may appear in other email programs.

America Online:

In AOL, just move your mouse over CLICK THIS LINK and click it.

Outlook Express

In Outlook Express (or Oulook), just click the underlined link http://...

Other email programs

It's possible that your email program may not show you a "clickable" link at all.

In that case, just drag your mouse over the link, starting at http: all the way through the last digit of serial. Once you have it all "highlighted", hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and press the C key at the same time. The CTRL+C combination copies the selected text. Then, open your web browser. Click the "Address" or "Location" field in your browser, hold down the CTRL key and press the V key. The CTRL+V combination pastes the copied text into the address. When you press the "Enter" key, you're taken to the download page.

The "Shipping Department" (download) page

The top of the Shipping page lists some helpful "downloading hints". You'll find a download button near the bottom of the page. This is what it looks like in AOL:

Click the download button to start receiving the ZIP file. Depending on which browser you're using, and how it's set up, you may see dialog boxes that ask:

(It's also possible that your browser may begin receiving the file without asking you either question... but that's ok, too).

You may see a box that looks something like this:

Select "Save this file to disk" and click OK.

Your browser may give you the opportunity to select a location to save the file:

Select a folder on your hard disk to receive the download. Do not download to a floppy disk! You will eventually move the download to a removable disk (in step 4. Make a "master disk"). However, it is a bad idea to download directly to a floppy disk! Select a folder on your hard disk and be sure to remember the location (folder name) where you save the file. It's also a good idea to leave the file name the same ( compushow32.zip in this example ), rather than changing it to something else.

During the download, you may see a "progress indicator" on the status bar at the bottom of your browser which could be the only indication you'll have that the download is progressing. It's more likely that you'll see a "progress window" like this:

Be sure not to click the Cancel button or close this box by clicking the [x] in the upper-right corner. Either action will cancel the download.

3. Install the program

To install your program, you open the ZIP file and run the "setup.exe" program inside it. You may use either

Installing with WinZip

Start WinZip (or a similar program), push the Open button and locate the zip file in the "Open Archive" dialog box:

Click the Open button to open the ZIP file and display the contents:

Push the Install button to extract "setup.exe" and run it.

Installing with CompuShow 32
Start CompuShow 32 and push the Options button at the top of the CompuShow 32 window to open the Options dialog:

On the Preferences page, make sure that there's a checkmark next to Open (run) in Windows and click OK.

Open the folder where the ZIP file was saved:

Double-click compushow32.zip to open the zip window.

Double-click SETUP.EXE. You'll be asked if you want to "Open (run) in Windows". Click the "Yes" button.

Before pushing the OK button in the setup program, be sure to close CompuShow 32. (Windows will not allow the SETUP program to install a new CompuShow 32 program while your current CompuShow 32 is running.)

Make a "master disk"

The day after you download your order, we email a reminder which says:

I see that you've recently downloaded your "CShow Place" order. Now that you have the "zip" file on your hard disk, we want to remind you to copy it to a removable disk. If you ever need to reinstall the program on a new hard disk or a new computer, you'll need the "setup" program that's inside the "zip" file. Please, take a few minutes to copy it to a removable disk, such as a floppy disk, or perhaps a ZIP disk or CD.

Start CompuShow 32 and open the folder containing the downloaded ZIP file. Insert a blank floppy disk in the drive, push the New button and select Drive A in the second window.

Drag compushow32.zip and drop in the floppy window. Select Copy here on the pop-up menu and when the copy is completed, be sure to label the disk (e.g. "CompuShow 32 version 5 master disk"), and store it where you can find it if you ever need to reinstall the program.
